Man charged for allegedly kidnapping wife and taking her on scary ride through John Smith Road in June charged for assaulting lady cop

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-eight-year-old car dealer, Anfernee Conorquie of Sunrise Park, Mile 8 Community, was arraigned this week at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

Conorquie, represented by attorney Ronell Gonzalez, appeared before Magistrate Mannon Dennison where he pleaded not guilty to a single charge of assaulting a police officer. He was granted bail of $500 plus one surety and is scheduled to return to court on October 6, 2025.

This is not Conorquie’s first run-in with the law. He is currently out on Supreme Court bail for charges of kidnapping and assault related to an alleged incident involving his wife, a teacher, earlier this year.

According to police reports and statements given by the victim, Conorquie’s wife had previously obtained a protection order against him on June 20. Despite this, she alleges that on June 30, while visiting the property they formerly shared, Conorquie confronted her, forcibly took her dog, assaulted her, and ultimately forced her into her own vehicle before speeding off.

During the ordeal, she attempted to alert police by honking the horn when she spotted a mobile unit, but Conorquie allegedly prevented her from escaping. The victim stated that he drove erratically through various routes, including the John Smith Road, Ladyville, Boom Road, and the Hattieville roundabout, before eventually returning to Mile 8.

She claimed Conorquie only released her after stopping at a gas station, where he handed over her vehicle keys and phone before leaving in another vehicle with friends.
