By Breaking Belize News Staff: Elroy Rowley, a 45-year-old electrician from Blackberry Ridge Community, has been charged with theft after allegedly selling a bicycle he borrowed from his neighbor for just $20. Unable to meet bail, he has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until Wednesday.
Rowley appeared unrepresented in Court #1 on Monday morning where he was read a single charge of theft. He is accused of stealing a black 20-inch male frame beach cruiser bicycle valued at $375, the property of a Belizean cook who was a friend of Rowley’s.
According to police, the complainant reported that Rowley borrowed the bicycle on June 16, 2025, to run an errand but never returned it. Police detained Rowley, who then led them to a residence in Burrell Boom where a woman handed over the bike, claiming she bought it from him for $20.
Rowley pleaded not guilty and was offered bail of $500 plus one surety, which he was unable to post. His next court appearance is set for August 15, 2025.
