By Breaking Belize News Staff: James Williams, a Hattieville resident, has been fined for possession of 40 grams of marijuana after nearly a year of dodging his case.
Williams was arrested over the weekend on a bench warrant and brought before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he changed his not guilty plea to guilty. The charge stemmed from a September 27, 2024 police search that uncovered cannabis in his home.
In court, Williams admitted he avoided attending earlier hearings because he had just started a new job in Caye Caulker. As a first-time offender, he was spared jail time and instead ordered to pay a $200 fine plus $5 court costs by October 31, 2025, or face two weeks’ imprisonment.
