By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 23-year-old woman from San Jose Village reported being assaulted by her common-law husband following an argument over a Facebook message.
The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, while the woman was at home bathing her children.
According to police reports, her partner confronted her about a Facebook message allegedly sent by a man saying “what’s up.” When she stated that she did not know why the individual had messaged her, the argument escalated.
The man reportedly began shouting accusations before choking her and punching her to the head, causing pain.
The woman struggled until he released her. He then gathered some clothing and left the residence.
Police say a warrant was obtained, and the accused was formally arrested and charged for the offense of harm. He was cautioned and reportedly chose to remain silent.
Investigations continue.
