By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A man is facing a theft charge after a vendor’s bicycle was snatched in broad daylight at the Orange Walk Bus Terminal, ridden off in full view of its owner, and later found discarded behind a house.

According to the Belize Police Department, a 46-year-old self-employed man of Smithsonia Street, Orange Walk Town, reported that on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at about 4:10 p.m., he was attending to customers at the terminal when he noticed a man he had come to know over recent weeks, a fellow terminal vendor, arguing with another vendor nearby.

The complainant told police he paid the argument little mind and continued working until he saw the man run toward his parked grey Skyline bicycle, valued at $300, jump on it, and ride away. He gave chase on foot, calling for the man to bring back his bicycle, but the suspect did not stop.

Police moved quickly. That same evening, officers visited the man’s residence in the Louisiana Area of Orange Walk Town, where they found a grey Skyline bicycle thrown behind the house, though the man himself was nowhere to be found. The bicycle was taken to the station, photographed, and labelled as an exhibit. The complainant later identified it as his property.

The trail went quiet until Tuesday, July 14, when, acting on information, police checked the bus terminal and encountered the suspect there. He was informed of the theft report against him, cautioned, and taken into custody. He was identified as 38-year-old Juan Isaias Ku, a labourer of the Louisiana Area, Orange Walk Town.

On Wednesday, July 15, police obtained a warrant and formally arrested and charged Ku with the crime of theft. He was cautioned once more and chose to remain silent.
