By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 49-year-old Belize City man has been released on bail after being charged with aggravated assault following an incident where he allegedly threatened a babysitter with a machete during a social gathering.
Richard Codd, who has no fixed address, was charged after allegedly threatening a 42-year-old babysitter from Victoria Street, with a three-foot machete. The incident occurred while the babysitter was socializing with a group at a home on Victoria Street.
According to the victim’s police report, around 4:45 p.m., a man she knew as “Ritchie” confronted her, making threatening statements about her and her sons. She reported that he then retrieved an orange-handled machete from his bicycle parked nearby and raised it toward her, causing her to fear for her life.
While Codd pleaded not guilty to the charge, his bail process was initially complicated by an outstanding court debt of $1,000. He was temporarily remanded to Belize Central Prison until December 19, 2024, when he was finally able to meet his bail conditions.
