By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Two brothers from Santa Martha Village, Orange Walk District, have been formally charged with wounding following a violent confrontation involving family members and gasoline-filled bottles.
Police reports state that the incident unfolded around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, when 31-year-old Hector Rios was driving home with his wife. As they passed his mother-in-law’s residence, his brothers-in-law, Edwin and Luis Tun, reportedly threw rocks at his truck.
Rios got out of his vehicle to confront them before eventually leaving.
Later that evening, after receiving a call from his wife about a client, Rios again drove past the house. This time, the Tun brothers allegedly hurled insults, calling him “maricon”—a derogatory term.
Enraged, Rios reportedly went home, armed himself with a machete and two bottles filled with gasoline, and returned to the area. Before he could reach the house, however, Edwin and Luis Tun, along with their father, allegedly attacked him, inflicting injuries.
Rios was later treated for his wounds, and police issued medico-legal forms confirming the injuries as wounding.
On Monday, November 10, police formally arrested and charged Luis and Edwin Tun for the offense of wounding.
