By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A late-evening police patrol led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man after officers found suspected crack cocaine in his school bag on Wednesday night in Orange Walk.
Around 8:00 p.m., officers on motorcycle patrol stopped a cyclist on Moho River Street after observing suspicious behavior and signs of nervousness. A search of the man and his belongings led to the discovery of a white, puffy substance believed to be crack cocaine inside the first compartment of his black backpack.
Police informed the man of the offence, cautioned him, and escorted him to the Orange Walk Police Station along with the suspected drug.
At the station, the substance was weighed in his presence, amounting to 0.13 grams, and was sealed and labeled as evidence. The suspect later identified himself as Sergio Gabriel Lopez Gonzalez to the police and voluntarily signed the exhibit envelope and custody acknowledgement forms.
He has since been formally charged with possession of controlled drugs.
