By Breaking Belize News Staff: A man accused of stealing an $800 tricycle was on the verge of being granted bail today after months on remand in prison, but one slip of the tongue landed him right back in jail.
Rene David Castillo, 48, appeared unrepresented in court on Tuesday expecting disclosure in the case against him for the theft of a tricycle on October 31, 2023. He pleaded guilty and as the court was deciding on a penalty for him, he once again insisted he didn’t know that the tricycle was stolen.
With that slip of the tongue, the court entered an unequivocal plea of not guilty on his behalf and he was sent back to prison.
His trial date is set for April 5.
