By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City construction worker accused of shooting at police officers during a June 2025 incident will soon stand trial after receiving a substantial bundle of evidence from prosecutors.
Forty-four-year-old Clive Hendricks, of Pickstock Street, was provided with 51 pages of disclosure, seven photographs, and a CD as part of the prosecution’s case file. The Case Management Conference (CMC) has been scheduled for December 1, 2025, in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where a trial date will be set.
Hendricks, who was shot in the hand during the exchange of gunfire with police, had been treated at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital before being handed over to authorities on June 14, 2025. He was later charged with aggravated assault with a deadly instrument, to wit, a firearm, upon a police constable.
During Tuesday’s court session, the Senior Magistrate in Court #2 advised Hendricks to verify that the CD evidence could be accessed and to report immediately if it could not be opened. Hendricks, who is currently unrepresented, was also reminded that he must produce his own witnesses and evidence at the upcoming hearing. His bail was extended until the December court date.
According to police, the incident occurred around 10:10 p.m. on June 3, 2025, when officers responded to reports of shots fired on Victoria Street. The officer, who was manning the New Road checkpoint, reported hearing gunfire and seeing a man matching Hendricks’ description flee the area. When ordered to stop, the suspect allegedly fired several shots at the officer, prompting the officer to return fire, wounding the assailant.
Investigators later recovered a black Bersa .380 pistol, a ski mask, and spent shells from the scene. Hendricks was detained later that night with a gunshot wound and has since maintained his not guilty plea.
His case will next be reviewed when the CMC convenes on December 1, 2025.
