Malique Gentle acquitted of 2021 murder of Adrian Hyde

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Malique Gentle, the man who was charged with the 2021 murder of Adrian Hyde, was acquitted of the murder charge in court on Wednesday and left court as a free man.

Gentle’s trial began on February 26 and wrapped up on March 1. His verdict was handed down in court on Wednesday and the sitting Justice delivered a not guilty ruling because ultimately, she felt the court could not rely on the statement provided by the Crown’s main witness, who is now dead.

The now deceased witness, who lived at the house where Hyde was stabbed, had originally given a statement testifying that a group of them had returned from Hopkins that day on November 7, 2021 when an argument started between Gentle and Hyde. He said that Gentle later returned to the house and took a knife from the kitchen before stabbing Hyde as many as seven times then leaving the house and walking up the street.

The Crown presented the witness statement as its main piece of evidence along with 11 witnesses, 9 of whom took the stand. Gentle was represented in court by attorney, Norman Moore.
