Malcolm Muschamp to serve less than three years after manslaughter plea in Dorian Tzac murder

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Malcolm Matthew Muschamp, 25, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2022 killing of Dorian Tzac, received a significantly reduced sentence on Wednesday, meaning he will serve less than three additional years behind bars. High Court Justice Derick Sylvester presided over the sentencing.

Muschamp was initially on trial for murder when he entered a plea bargain with the Crown on Tuesday, February 17, 2025, agreeing to plead guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Justice Sylvester began with a 10-year starting point for manslaughter by unlawful act. After considering mitigating and aggravating factors, and awarding Muschamp a one-third deduction for his guilty plea, the sentence was reduced to 6 years imprisonment. A further deduction was applied for his remand time of 3 years, 6 months, and 13 days, leaving Muschamp with 2 years, 5 months, and 18 days left to serve.

Justice Sylvester also ordered Muschamp to undergo anger management counseling and participate in all available rehabilitation programs at the Belize Central Prison.

During the trial, evidence suggested Muschamp was not the shooter in Tzac’s murder, but he played a role in connection to the incident. Police had testified to seeing Muschamp fleeing the scene with a gun, believed to be the murder weapon. However, despite being allegedly caught with the firearm, Muschamp was acquitted of gun and ammunition charges in a separate trial in May 2019, as crown witnesses were unable to conclusively link him to the weapon.

According to a caution statement given to police, Muschamp claimed someone else did the shooting, and he merely ran with the gun, unaware the individual intended to fire it. Police, however, did not believe his account and charged him with Tzac’s murder. No one else was ever charged in connection with Tzac’s death, which occurred on Thursday, January 13, 2022.

Muschamp was represented by Attorney Arthur Saldivar, while Glenfield Dennsion represented the Crown.
