By Breaking Belize News Staff: A trusted maintenance worker turned suspected burglar after allegedly breaking into the home of well-known attorney Audrey Matura while she was out of town for the Easter weekend, stealing over $6,000 worth of valuables, including her licensed firearm.
Prince Copious, a 25-year-old resident of Holy Emmanuel Street, Belize City, appeared on Monday before Magistrate Ludlow Black where he was charged with a single count of burglary. Despite pleading not guilty, Copious was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 12, 2025, due to the seriousness of the crime and the fact that he was already out on bail for a similar offense.
According to police reports, the burglary occurred between April 19 and April 21, 2025, at Matura’s residence on Chetumal Boulevard, just across from the Belama Police Station. Matura’s son, who also lives at the residence, reported the incident to authorities after discovering the break-in.
Surveillance footage from the home showed Copious using a makeshift ladder to enter through a second-floor bathroom window. Stolen items included a 9mm Ruger pistol, jewelry, electronics, alcohol, and other valuables totaling $6,675.
Matura, who is currently engaged in a trial down south, shared via WhatsApp that she is “disappointed” by the betrayal of trust, stating, “He waited until we all left for the Easter to enter.” Her primary concern remains recovering her stolen firearm, for which she has offered a $2,000 reward.
Copious was detained by Dangriga police on April 25 following a wanted bulletin issued for his arrest.
