By Aaron Humes: Police have formally arrested and charged 39-year-old Macario Coy, a teacher and former Senator for the United Democratic Party (UDP), for sexual assault.
Today, Friday, November 21, Macario Coy voluntarily surrendered himself at the Punta Gorda Police Station, accompanied by his attorney. He was later formally arrested and charged with sexual assault.
On Friday, November 7, a 36-year-old Belizean teacher reported to police that she was sexually assaulted by Macario Coy on Tuesday, November 4.
Coy appeared in court where he was granted bail set at $3,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 20, 2026.
