By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 28-year-old Belize City man who was recently granted bail on a charge of a mischievous act involving an 11-year-old minor returned to court on Friday to confirm his new residential address as required by his bail conditions.

Lucas Canti, a salesperson, appeared before the Chief Magistrate in Court #1 after being advised by the court to relocate from his previous residence to avoid any proximity to the complainant.

Canti complied with the condition and informed the court that he has moved to the Boom area, where he will now reside with his aunt, who was present in court and confirmed his accommodation.

The Chief Magistrate accepted the update, and Canti remains on bail of $800 plus two sureties, along with conditions attached to his release. His next court date is set for June 5, 2026.

Canti was first brought before the court on April 7, 2026, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was initially unable to meet bail and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison before securing his release the following day, April 8.

The allegations stem from an incident reported on April 3, 2026, involving an 11-year-old girl who told police that Canti attempted to touch her and behaved in a manner that made her feel fearful and uncomfortable. The minor, who was at home with her sister at the time, later reported the matter to her mother, and a complaint was made to police.

According to police reports, statements were taken from both the child and her mother, leading to an investigation and Canti’s subsequent arrest and charge.

In court, Canti denied the allegations, telling the Chief Magistrate that he had been out with a friend drinking before going to buy food and later purchased tamales, which he said he intended to give to children in the area.

He maintained that he did not touch the minor in any inappropriate manner and denied attempting to climb into the apartment or act in a sexual way toward her, stating: “I never did that. Maybe they saw it differently.”

Canti also rejected claims that he had engaged in similar behaviour in the past. The case remains before the court.
