Government of Belize Press Release
A Safer and Happier 2024!
As we start a new year, many of us make resolutions to lose weight, eat healthy, exercise, draw closer to God and many others all in the hope of living a better and longer life. However, little thought is given to living a safer life; particularly from a road safety standpoint. This year, let’s add another resolution to our list. Let’s add being committed to safer use of the roadways.
As drivers, let us commit this year to complying with the rules of the road to ensure that we and other road users get home safely to start the new year with joy and happiness with our families. Let’s make a conscious effort not to drive while intoxicated; not to be distracted while driving; not to speed; not to show rage towards other drivers. Let this be one new year resolution that you keep for the entire year. The happiness of your families depends on you, the driver.
We can make 2024 the year with the most drastic reduction in road traffic incidents and continue to build on the reduction of Road Traffic Incidents over the succeeding years so that we can reach our Decade of Action for Road Safety goal of 50 percent reduction in traffic fatalities by 2030. Let’s learn from the scourges of RTIs we experienced in 2023.
Dr. Osmond Martinez, Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Economic Development, and the Second Road Safety Project Executing Unit wishes all a happy, prosperous and safe new year!
