By Aaron Humes: Further to its statement of December 4, 2023, the Lotteries Committee has advised that its reminder to obtain licenses for raffles applies primarily to commercial raffle activity by the business community, where businesses routinely give away cash and prizes as part of Christmas sales.
The Lotteries Committee says it is part of its mandate to ensure the protection of the rights of buyers and participants in games of chance, such as commercial raffles.
Businesses holding raffles must be held to proper implementation, fairness, and transparency standards, and all advertised prizes are awarded and redeemed. The public can help by verifying that commercial raffles purchased are registered by the Lotteries Committee to make sure that all advertised prizes are given.
