Los Angeles teen of Belizean heritage excels in academics, arts, and athletics

By Horace Palacio: Hamilton High School is home to a true force in 18-year-old Aila Alarbesh, a young woman of Belizean heritage who is making waves in Los Angeles across multiple fields.

Alarbesh proves there’s no limit to what one can achieve, simultaneously excelling as a student, an athlete, an artist, and a volunteer. Her creative expression shines through her award-winning mixed-media artwork, and she even designs her own clothing to accommodate her tall frame.

Academically, Alarbesh maintains a remarkable 4.1 GPA. Beyond her studies, she is captain of the school’s varsity volleyball team, leading them to recent victories and earning recognition as a star player in the city league.

Aila’s commitment extends beyond her own achievements. She dedicates time as an intern at a local youth shelter, using her artistic talents to lead art and music therapy sessions that help others express themselves and find healing.

Inspired by her rich heritage, which includes roots in Belize, North Africa, and the Middle East, Alarbesh is driven to make a difference in the world. Her future plans involve pursuing a degree in international business, and she aspires to join her father’s company while continuing to use her diverse talents in a global context.
