By Aaron Humes: The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) has announced that it is actively responding to reports of localized flooding in various areas of the Orange Walk District as of midday today. In light of the situation, emergency shelters have been established at key locations including the San Pablo Community Center, San Jose Government School, and the Trial Farm Iglesia Lutherana.

Motorists are being urged to exercise caution as road conditions remain precarious. Several roads are accessible only to high vehicles and trucks, with particular areas marked by caution.

In Yo Creek Village, roads leading to San Lazaro and San Antonio are passable for high vehicles and trucks only. Extreme caution is advised for drivers in this area. In Santa Martha Village, the Santa Martha Road is currently impassable.

The Guinea Grass Road is passable for high vehicles and trucks, with strong warnings for drivers to proceed with caution. The San Roman Road remains in a similar state. The Mile 61 segment of the Philip Goldson Highway is passable for high vehicles and trucks while advising extreme caution. San Antonio Road is currently passable. Access to the road leading to San Felipe is confirmed as passable. The By Pass Road is also noted as passable, again urging drivers to remain vigilant.

NEMO and Ministry of Infrastructure personnel have placed caution signs throughout the affected areas to alert residents and travelers of the ongoing risks. NEMO has emphasized the importance of remaining alert, particularly for residents living in low-lying or flood-prone regions.

For those needing assistance, the public is encouraged to reach out to District Coordinator Juan Leiva at 614-7177 or Regional Coordinator Jose Carballo at 614-6044. Additionally, assistance can be sought through the NEMO hotline at 936.

As the day progresses, officials continue to monitor conditions and provide updates on the situation.
