By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Orange Walk police have recovered a loaded 9mm pistol hidden on the grounds of the Old Cemetery in Orange Walk Town.
According to police, around 9:00am on Monday, November 2, officers from the San Roman Special Patrol Unit, Special Branch, GI3 and the Mobile Interdiction Unit searched the cemetery for drugs, firearms and ammunition based on intelligence.
During the search, an officer spotted a yellow plastic bag under a piece of Plycem board right beside an unpainted tomb. Inside were two neatly folded T shirts.
When the shirts were unfolded, police found a black and silver Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol. The serial number had been scraped off. The gun’s magazine was loaded with five rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition.
No one was in the area. The firearm, magazine and ammunition were taken to the Orange Walk Police Station, where they were marked, sealed and labelled as exhibits.
No arrests have been made.
