By Zoila Palma:  Millions of people around the world are set to observe Earth Hour tonight, switching off non-essential lights at 8:30 p.m. for one hour in a symbolic show of support for climate action.

The annual event, held on the last Saturday of March, remains one of the largest global environmental movements. Organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature, Earth Hour began in 2007 in Sydney and has since expanded to more than 190 countries, with participation from landmarks, businesses, and households.

The Caribbean Community emphasized regional solidarity, noting that as lights dim across the Caribbean, commitment to a sustainable future continues to grow.

CARICOM highlighted participation from countries including Belize, Dominica, and Suriname.

CARICOM said the one-hour lights-off initiative is a call to action, encouraging citizens to “switch on hope” and take steps toward environmental protection.
