By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Libertad FC are the new champions of the Corozal U‑17 football competition after outlasting No Mercy in a dramatic final that ended 5–3 on penalties at the Carolina Field, Carolina, Corozal, last Sunday. The match, described by long‑time supporter Baltazar “El Mago” Chan as one of the most exciting youth finals in recent memory, kept fans on edge from kickoff to the final whistle.

No Mercy Lead 2–1 at Halftime Behind Rancharan’s Early Brace

No Mercy came out firing, and Kimmani Rancharan delivered early with two first‑half goals that pushed his team to a 2–1 halftime lead. His pace and finishing gave No Mercy the upper hand through the opening 45 minutes.

Rancharan Completes His Hat Trick to Tie the Match 4–4

The second half turned into a goal‑trading battle. Libertad FC equalised, No Mercy went ahead again, and the momentum swung back and forth.

Rancharan struck again in the second half to complete his hat trick, and his third goal was the one that tied the match at 4–4, keeping No Mercy alive in a thrilling regulation finish.

The 90 minutes ended 4–4, with both sides refusing to break.

Extra Time and Penalties Decide the Champion

Extra time brought more fireworks, as each team scored once more, pushing the score to 5–5. With nothing separating them, the championship went to penalties.

Libertad FC held their nerve from the spot, converting confidently and getting the decisive save to win the shootout 5–3 and claim the 2026 Corozal U‑17 title.

In the opening match of the day, the Ranchito Young Warriors defeated the Orange Walk Vikings, the reigning U‑17 champions from Orange Walk, by a 2–1 margin. The Warriors showed discipline and maturity, scoring at key moments and defending their lead with determination.
