By Breaking Belize News Staff: Convicted murderer Arthur Hill is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday for the January 2024 stabbing death of his 19-year-old brother-in-law, Levan Christopher Aldana, in Biscayne Village.

Hill was found guilty of murder by Justice Candace Nanton on July 16, 2026, following a trial largely built on circumstantial evidence and Aldana’s dying declaration identifying Hill as his attacker.

During a recent mitigation hearing, Aldana’s mother, Tracey Meighan, delivered an emotional victim-impact statement describing the moment she learned that her first-born son had been stabbed.

“Levan was my first born son,” Meighan told the court, adding that his death left her with unimaginable pain.

Meighan said she was away when she received a call on January 31, 2024, and was shown her son lying injured on the ground. She asked for his shirt to be lifted and saw that his intestines were protruding from his abdomen.

“At that moment, I could not hold my baby,” she told the court, saying she felt helpless as she watched him suffering from afar.

“I could not do anything,” Meighan said. She later learned that Aldana had died while being taken for medical treatment.

“A part of me died too,” she told the court.

At trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Aldana had been seen socializing with Hill shortly before the stabbing. One witness testified that Hill was wearing a white shirt and appeared intoxicated.

Another witness testified that Hill later arrived at his home shirtless, barefoot, sweating and agitated, asking to use a phone and later requesting clothing. The witness gave him a red shirt and black slippers.

Police testified that Hill later identified himself to officers, who observed what appeared to be blood on his elbow.

A key part of the prosecution’s case was evidence from a police officer who said the mortally wounded Aldana identified his attacker by saying, “Dah Arthur Hill do it.”

Justice Nanton found the officer’s evidence credible and concluded that, when combined with the other circumstantial evidence, the prosecution had proven Hill’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

A doctor testified that Aldana suffered three stab wounds, including two to the neck and a fatal wound to the abdomen. The abdominal wound caused severe internal bleeding and damage to vital organs.

Hill maintained his innocence throughout the trial.

Justice Nanton is expected to hand down Hill’s sentence on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
