By Breaking Belize News Staff: In the High Court on Thursday, Leon Lamb, 31, was found guilty of rape in connection with a violent home invasion that occurred on September 24, 2022. He was initially charged with rape, aggravated burglary, and aggravated assault.
The victim, a 30-year-old woman, testified that Lamb pretended to be a police officer to gain entry into her home. Once inside, he dragged her by the hair, held her at gunpoint, and forced her to perform oral sex while her roommate was present. The victim further told the court that Lamb hit her with his firearm and assaulted her before fleeing.
Justice Nigel Pilgrim ruled that the victim’s testimony was credible and detailed, noting that despite the absence of DNA or firearm evidence, her account proved the elements of rape beyond a reasonable doubt.
A doctor who examined the victim shortly after the incident documented bruises to her arms, neck, cheek, and legs, consistent with her account of being attacked. Her roommate also corroborated parts of the assault, testifying that she witnessed Lamb inside the home.
Lamb, who testified in his own defense, denied the allegations and claimed he had no memory of the incident, saying he was intoxicated at a party that night. He also alleged police misconduct following his arrest.
Justice Pilgrim has deferred sentencing until December 5, 2025, pending a psychiatric evaluation, social inquiry report, prison report, and a victim impact statement.
This is not Lamb’s first conviction, and he now faces the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence for the sexual assault.
