By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-seven-year-old Jerry Malique August, a stevedore of Lemonal Village, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday, November 6, 2026, where he was charged with damage to property in connection with an incident for which he had previously been charged with aggravated assault.
August appeared before a magistrate in Court #5, represented by attorney Oscar Selgado, and pleaded not guilty to the new charge.
Prosecutors allege that on August 24, 2026, in Bermudian Landing Village, August damaged a four-door Chevrolet Cruze valued at $3,000.
During the arraignment, the magistrate raised the issue of bail, prompting Selgado to explain that his client had already secured High Court bail in connection with an aggravated assault charge arising from the same incident.
Selgado argued that requiring August to obtain bail again would be unfair, particularly since both charges originated from the same circumstances.
The prosecutor agreed with the submission, and August was allowed to remain on his existing bail without having to secure a new bail arrangement.
August had previously been remanded to the Belize Central Prison following his arraignment on the aggravated assault charge before successfully obtaining bail through the High Court.
His next court appearance is scheduled for November 13, 2026, when he is expected to receive disclosure in relation to both charges.
