Legal Year 2025 officially opens with Interfaith ceremony

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On January 20, 2025, the official opening of the Legal Year 2025 began with an Interfaith Ceremony held at the Holy Redeemer Cathedral in Belize City.

Lawyers, magistrates, and judicial groups gathered alongside members of the Belize Council of Churches to share readings and scripture, fostering a spirit of unity and reflection.

This was followed by the symbolic walk to the Senior Courthouse, where the Legal Year was officially declared open.

“The Legal Year is a cornerstone of our judicial system, setting the calendar for court sessions and hearings. It reinforces the judiciary’s commitment to justice, transparency, and accountability, ensuring the efficient administration of justice throughout the year,” the Government said.

This occasion also provides an opportunity to reflect on past achievements, address challenges, and reaffirm dedication to upholding the rule of law for all Belizeans.
