As part of its conference cycle entitled Caminos de la descolonización: pensamiento, arte y acción cultural desde la Casa de las Américas, Casa de las Américas presents art historian and director of Casa’s Visual Arts section Silvia Llanes. Her lecture, “La colección Arte de Nuestra América Haydée Santamaría, una colección desde la mirada de Latinoamérica y el Caribe” [The Haydée Santamaría ‘Arte de Nuestra América’ Collection, a collection from the perspective of Latin America and the Caribbean] will take place on Tuesday, May 5, at 10:00am (EST), at the Manuel Galich Hall (Casa de las Américas, located at the corner of 3rd and G street, Havana, Cuba).
The Haydée Santamaría ‘Arte de Nuestra América’ Collection—at Latin American Gallery at Casa de las Américas, also known as the Haydée Santamaría Gallery—houses more than 10,000 pieces of artwork including painting, prints, photography, sculpture, and ceramics, as well as archival material, photos, and videos. The collection consists of works by many well-known artists from Latin America and the Caribbean, including Cuban greats such as Wifredo Lam, Amelia Peláez, and René Portocarrero, among others.
