By Breaking Belize News Staff: The San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town Council is in turmoil following the resignation of Town Administrator Anthony Cal.
Cal is the third administrator to leave since Mayor Earl Trapp’s re-election earlier this year.
Reports suggest that Cal resigned due to frustration with political interference and financial mismanagement. Breaking Belize News attempted to reach Cal for comment but there was no response.
A leaked Profit and loss statement for the month of May 2024 from the Town Council shows payment for contracts and consultancy in the total sum of $43, 692.50.
In addition, the Profit and Loss statement demonstrates that the council is operating at a loss of $94,548.39.
The leaked document comes in the wake of Mayor Trapp’s recent public call for the expulsion of Patrick Faber from the United Democratic Party (UDP), adding to the council’s current turbulence.
