By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On November 3, 2024, Leader of the Opposition Shyne Barrow visited residents in San Roman Village, Orange Walk.
Barrow was joined by UDP standard bearer Carlos Zetina, UDP Northern Regional Leader Tony Herrera and Corozal southwest standard bearer Martin Rivera.
The residents shared their concerns since their community is flooded.
Following the assessment, Barrow noted that residents were concerned that NEMO was providing emergency aid only to some families.
They also visited Douglas village and the residents requested the need for additional boat trips to dry land
“The UDP Leadership is committed to assisting as best we can in collaboration with brother Zetina and the San Roman Village Council.
Despite the challenges we enjoyed a moment of warmth when were welcomed into the home of one the villagers to enjoy some escabeche. Generosity and hospitality even in times of distress is the mark of the Belizean resilience,” Barrow said.
Barrow pledged to work with community leaders to assist in providing emergency food assistance.
