By Aaron Humes: It has been a tumultuous time for entertainer and record producer Sean Combs, accused in multiple lawsuits of sexual assault and more recently the subject of a house raid with allusions to sex trafficking.

Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow was once a protégé and remains a close friend of Combs and recently he commented to the media on the allegations against Combs. Barrow himself served nearly ten years in a New York prison for a shooting incident in a Manhattan nightclub that resulted in injuries, an incident for which Barrow has maintained his innocence and was recently vindicated by the victim.

The primary victim in the case has consistently fingered Combs, not Barrow, as being responsible. As it all shakes out Barrow has kept his silence, but this week he reiterated that he was never at fault while admitting that “old wounds” have been reopened: “…I’ve done my best to put it behind me and to move forward. And so but it certainly reopens the wounds that I’ve been saying this all along. Everyone knew all along that I was the fall guy. But my political enemies and, you know, detractors tried to make me into, you know, this criminal. But everyone knew that I was a young kid that took the fall. Everyone knew that that was the story for all the years…”

But Barrow said he was not about to point fingers now: “So what I’m saying is that was a decision that I made as a young man. And I’m not saying I’m not going back on that. I’m not about to point the finger now. I’m not going to get into that. I’m just saying that I maintain my innocence all this time. I said I was defending myself. I didn’t get into who did what. But the victim is telling you who did what. And another, I understand that there are other witnesses.”

As for Combs’ troubles, Barrow said that takes a backseat to his political work, but allowed that he had been in touch with Combs and continues to count him as a supporter, though that may change if any charges stick: “I am appreciative of whatever contributions Diddy has made to help the people of Belize. I wish him well. I pray for him and I pray for the alleged victims. And if it is true, may justice be served. If it is not, it’s a tragedy because a global icon would have been destroyed.”
