By Zoila Palma: Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton issued a statement saying that she will not be bullied.
“I was thrust into a life of service at a very early age. I learnt valuable lessons about service to humanity as well as on the importance of safeguarding my integrity by the example my parents provided by the way they lived their lives. My life’s work has been about service to people and to my country, clocking close to 40 years,” Panton said.
“I will not be bullied. I will not allow myself to be undermined or treated with disrespect. I will not be forced to make decisions that will not serve the best interests of our party and country.
I serve in the National Assembly of Belize as the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives. I also serve as the duly elected representative of Albert. My commitment to the people will not waver. Representation matters. How we show up is equally important,” Panton added.
In addition, Panton says that deciding who will lead the UDP is a matter for the party to determine.
“It is my view that this decision should be made sooner rather than later if indeed it is our desire to take charge of governing our beloved Belize in 2030. Rebuilding is hard work. The work must now begin in earnest. Many of our party supporters have grown weary and disillusioned. We cannot keep dancing around and around the mulberry bush, doing the same things over and over, and expect a different result. Inaction is too great a price. I have no particular desire myself to be the brown girl in a ring as we dance and sing, fuss and fight going nowhere. I rather use my energy and my time more strategically and wisely,” Panton explained.
Panton invited supporters to stand firm to defend democracy.
