By Zoila Palma: Today, Leader of the Opposition Tracy Taegar Panton issued a statement reaffirming that “Belize’s sovereignty is not, and will never be, negotiable.”
“Our borders, our independence, and our national identity were secured through generations of struggle, sacrifice, and the unyielding determination of our people. They are not subject to compromise, political convenience, or foreign provocation,” Panton said.
Panton says that the reality remains clear, “Belize is a nation of peace, freedom, and opportunity. Thousands from neighboring states have chosen to live among us, study in our schools, and contribute to our economy. This lived reality exposes the contradiction between political posturing abroad and the harmony of coexistence within our borders.”
Panton says that Belize’s “sovereignty is enshrined in our Constitution, defended by international law, and upheld by the will of the Belizean people.”
Panton says that the Opposition calls on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to provide timely updates to the people of Belize on all developments on the Sarstoon and the Government’s steps to bring the aggression by Guatemalan Military Forces to the attention of the OAS, to all international bodies and to all friendly nations with the aim of reaffirming their support for Belize’s sovereignty.
