Leader of Opposition slams Briceno administration for “zero investments in public health”

By Zoila Palma:  Today, Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton issued a statement slamming the Briceno administration for “zero investment in public health.”

“Universal Healthcare Coverage starts with access to Primary Healthcare.  Yet our Public Healthcare facilities are being completely abandon by this BLU, Briceno-led Administration.  There is zero investments being made in public health. These facilities are not being expanded , equipped or resourced. The NHI Contracts that are being issued are indeed quite “lucrative”.  Being issued to facilities that are sub par.  Space that will need to be “upgraded” to handle demand,” Panton said.

Panton says that the Government has set aside $75 million dollars for NHI this year.

“We need to have the list of the facilities being contracted to provide services.  We need to know what GoB is paying for the services they are procuring.  Don’t just tell us what the patient’s contributed on the front end but what the Belizean taxpayers are paying on the backend.  Universal Healthcare is NOT free,” Panton added.

Panton said all Belizeans deserve access to affordable, quality healthcare.
