By Zoila Palma: Today, Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton said that the “alleged kidnapping and handover of Joseph Budna to a hostile foreign jurisdiction are not frivolous matters. If this act was indeed carried out by state agents, it represents a serious threat to our national sovereignty, to the rights and privileges of Belizean citizens, and to the very sense of security we are entitled to as Belizeans.”
Panton clarified that she does not support or like pedophiles.
“I abhor all acts against children that rob them of their innocence.
There is no question about that,” Panton said.
Panton says that the ends do not justify the means.
“What is at stake here is not sympathy for a man’s who has been convicted of a heinous crime but, more importantly, the integrity of our justice system and the protection of citizens by those whose duty it is to do so,” Panton explained.
Panton called for an independent investigation.
“The silence of the Government on this matter raises serious red flags. Who is the Government protecting and why?
This is about the precedent being set. If this incident is left unchecked, the question is: Who will be next,” Panton questioned.
