By Zoila Palma: Today, Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton extended congratulations to the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, on her sweeping victory at the polls.
“This decisive mandate is a clear expression of the confidence the Barbadian people have placed in her leadership, her vision, and her continued stewardship of their nation. It is also a powerful affirmation of democratic values, the strength of our institutions, and the enduring commitment of Caribbean people to chart their own path forward,” Panton said.
“Prime Minister Mottley has distinguished herself not only as a national leader, but as a regional and global voice on issues of climate justice, economic resilience, and the empowerment of small states. Her advocacy on behalf of the Caribbean has elevated the region’s concerns on the world stage and has inspired many across the hemisphere,” the Leader of the Opposition added.
Panton said that Mottley’s victory is meaningful as it reflects the growing role of women in leadership throughout the Caribbean, and serves as an inspiration to young women and girls across our region, including here in Belize, who aspire to public service and national leadership.
“Belize and Barbados share a proud history of cooperation and solidarity within CARICOM. It is my sincere hope that the bonds between our two nations will continue to strengthen, and that together we will advance policies that promote economic opportunity, social justice, climate resilience, and regional unity,” the Leader of the Opposition stated.
Panton extended best wishes to Prime Minister Mottley as she continues to serve the people of Barbados and to champion the interests of the Caribbean region.
