By Zoila Palma: Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton is expressing concern over the “destabilization of our Hemisphere.”
Panton expressed concern over recent events in Venezuela, Cuba and Mexico.
“The price of dictatorship.
The price of criminal infiltration.
The price of greed and unchecked power. Is always the same, Human life. Have we become so desensitized that we no longer value our own humanity,” Panton said.
Panton says that instability does not respect borders.
“What troubles me deeply is the deafening silence from those who can speak. It is as though we believe that if we ignore what is unfolding, we somehow protect our sovereignty. That if we remain quiet, we insulate ourselves. Nothing could be further from the truth. Instability does not respect borders. Violence does not stop at customs. Desperation does not require a visa. What happens to one of us has already happened to the rest of us,” the Leader of the Opposition explained.
Panton called on all Belizeans to pray for peace, courage, for moral clarity in this Hemisphere.
“Belize must remain vigilant and principled. We will be directly impacted by these existential shocks,” Panton said.
