Leader of Opposition calls out Prime Minister for “bullying” her

By Zoila Palma:  Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton is calling out Prime Minister John Briceno for allegedly bullying her.

“It is grossly offensive and wholly inappropriate. People who are differently abled, whether due to a temporary injury or a permanent disability, must never be ridiculed,” Panton said.

Panton explained that she is currently managing a temporary injury to her right leg.

As a result, she explained that she is not yet able to remain standing for extended periods without discomfort and pain.

“Taking short breaks during long periods of standing helps to relieve the strain and brings some measure of comfort. My injury is not permanent, and with time, consistent therapy, and a little patience, I believe I will fully recover. But even if I do not, I will be just fine. A temporary setback can never diminish who I am at my core, nor can it weaken my lifelong commitment to serving Belize and her people of all abilities,” she explained.

The Leader of the Opposition then called out PM Briceno saying, “what deeply troubles me is that the holder of the highest office in this land, the Prime Minister of Belize, would seek to ridicule or bully another person in this way. Only an ignorant person would find such conduct amusing. Even more disturbing is the fact that there are many people, including professionals and advocates, who have devoted their lives to defending the dignity, rights, and inclusion of those living with physical challenges. I know the Prime Minister’s wife to be one of them.”

Panton calls on all Belizeans to stand together to preserve the dignity of every person, including those whose abilities may differ from our own.
