By Zoila Palma: Opposition Leader Tracy Panton has urged Belizeans to embrace national renewal through citizen participation, economic opportunity, and stronger institutions, emphasizing the shared responsibility of government and the public in shaping the country’s future.

In her Independence Day address, Panton described Belize at 45 as a movement that should extend beyond political institutions and individual leaders. She called for a people-centered approach to leadership and national development.

“Our next chapter must be one of people-centered leadership and national renewal,” Panton said.

She emphasized that government cannot address the country’s challenges alone and encouraged citizens to take an active role in national affairs. Panton stated, “Government has a solemn duty, but it cannot build Belize alone.”

Panton also urged Belizeans to participate in democratic processes and contribute to their communities, saying, “Democracy is not a favor granted by politicians; it is a responsibility we exercise every day.”

She encouraged citizens to register and vote, engage their representatives, mentor young people, support Belizean businesses, and reject wrongdoing.
