Landlord accused of threatening to kill female tenant granted $2,000 bail

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City landlord is out on bail after being accused by one of his tenants of assaulting her and threatening to kill her.

Thirty-one-year-old Aaron Arthur Castillo, a security guard and landlord of Western Avenue, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #7, where he was charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of threat of death upon one of his tenants.

Police allege that on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at #5 Western Avenue, Castillo intentionally and unlawfully committed an aggravated assault against the woman. It is further alleged that he threatened her with death by saying, “I wah kill yuh.”

Castillo pleaded not guilty to both charges.

With no objection to bail, the court granted him bail in the sum of $2,000 plus two sureties of $1,000 each, which he was able to meet.

As part of his bail conditions, Castillo must remain 50 feet away from the complainant. The court raised concerns since both Castillo and the tenant live within the same premises. However, Castillo reportedly told the court that alternative arrangements could be made for rent collection, including having another person collect payments or implementing online payment methods to avoid direct contact.

Castillo is due back in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on June 24, 2026.
