By Aaron Humes: A 34-year-old woman was killed and two co-workers injured in a shooting at Da Buzz Lounge on the Philip Goldson Highway earlier this evening, Thursday.
Police responded to the establishment at Mile 1.5 around 6:30 p.m. after receiving a report of shots fired. On arrival, officers found Salma Raquel Orellana Funez, 34, of Vista Del Mar, Ladyville, Belize District, lying motionless on the floor.
Initial investigation revealed that a male suspect wearing a white shirt, black pants, and a white bucket hat entered the lounge and approached Orellana Funez, who was seated at the bar. The man spoke with her briefly before leaving for the bathroom. Upon returning, he pulled out a firearm and shot Orellana Funez several times. He then turned and fired at two other female employees inside the lounge.
The two other victims were identified as Shayanta Williams, 26, of Ladyville, and Cardova Neal, 32, of Frederick Street, Belize City. Both sustained gunshot injuries and were transported to hospital. Williams and Neal are in stable condition.
Orellana Funez was also transported to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:16 p.m. Her body remains at the KHMH morgue pending a post mortem examination.
No arrests have been made. The suspect’s whereabouts are unknown.
The murder is under investigation. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.
