By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Ladyville resident, identified as Hugo Jimenez, was fined $355 by the court on Thursday after pleading guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia. The incident occurred on Baghdad Street, Belize City, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Police found a black metal pipe, three inches in length, in Jimenez’s possession, which had been adapted for smoking crack cocaine.
Jimenez, who was unrepresented in court, admitted to the charge but claimed he was too intoxicated to remember the details of the night. “I don’t know what happened,” Jimenez told the court, explaining that he had been drunk at the time of the incident.
This is not Jimenez’s first brush with the law; earlier this year, he pleaded guilty to public drinking and paid a $30 fine. For the current offense, the court fined him $350, along with an additional $5 court fee, with a deadline to pay by November 30, 2024, or face four months in prison. The Magistrate also ordered the destruction of the crack pipe.
