By Breaking Belize News Staff: For the second time in just over two months, 53-year-old Emeterio Reyes of Ladyville has walked out of the Belize City Magistrate’s Court a free man.
Reyes, who has a history of convictions including five burglaries in Ladyville, was arraigned this week on a charge of common assault against a woman. But within minutes of the hearing, the matter was dismissed after the woman appeared in court and requested no further action, telling the Magistrate she had forgiven him.
Reyes had pleaded not guilty to the charge before it was struck out.
This comes after another brush with the law earlier this summer. On June 23, 2025, Reyes was freed of a drug possession charge when the court ruled that the alleged crack cocaine found on him weighed so little it could not register on a scale, making it impossible to impose a penalty.
