By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Ladyville electrician accused of burglarizing a local Asian-owned business is behind bars after being denied bail by the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.
Forty-four-year-old Kenroy Kareem Betancourt was charged with burglary after surveillance footage allegedly captured him breaking into Lei’s Fast Food, located on Perez Road in Ladyville.
According to police, between November 6 and 7, 2025, Betancourt entered the business place and stole a variety of items, including two pink iPhones valued at $2,000, a microwave worth $500, a digital recorder box valued at $2,600, 4 cases of beer, a case of stout, assorted Powerade drinks, a sack of plastic bags, cash, and other goods — all totaling more than $5,000 in stolen property.
Police say the break-in was discovered on the morning of November 7, when the owner returned to find his shop burglarized. After reviewing surveillance footage, the store owner identified Betancourt as the man seen entering through the shop’s front bar door.
Following investigations, police executed a search warrant at a home on Flamboyant Street, Belize City, where they reportedly found several of the stolen items, including Powerade drinks, Belikin Stout, plastic bags, and two pink iPhones hidden behind the house.
Betancourt, who appeared unrepresented in court, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Although the prosecution did not object to bail, the Magistrate of Court #3 refused to grant it, ruling that Betancourt was a flight risk, likely to reoffend, and could interfere with the virtual complainant.
As a result, Betancourt was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until January 5, 2026, when his case is expected to return to court.
