By Giselle O’Brien:
The Justice for Laddie Foundation held its annual Back to School Program in the Corozalito Community on Tuesday, August 12th. There, over 40 primary school children were given new school bags filled with supplies for the upcoming school year.

The initiative, through collaboration between The Laddie Foundation and Chaa Creek Cares, provided supplies as well as a community-centered event with food, drink, games and face painting.

The Justice for Laddie Foundation was established in 2021, in memory of young Laddie Gillett, who lost his life unnecessarily when he was shot by police while on vacation in Placencia with his family. The foundation posted on social media:

“The Laddie Foundation, inspired by the life and legacy of Laddie Gillett, is dedicated to creating opportunities for children and youth in Belize ensuring they have the tools, resources, and support to pursue their education and dreams.
Partnerships make a tangible difference in rural communities, from supporting education and youth development to fostering brighter futures. Together, we believe that every child deserves a fair start in life, and today was a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when we join hands.”

The post also expressed gratitude to this year’s sponsors: Gitz School Supplies, New Flags, Caribbean Chicken, Vales, NL’s Tortilla and Bowen & Bowen, for their contribution.

The team at BBN congratulates the Justice for Laddie Foundation and its partners for their continued work and contribution to the children of Belize.
