By Aaron Humes: The confusion surrounding the finish line of the 29th La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge has resulted in the Belize Canoe Association announcing that the event will end with celebrations at two locations.
The Caribbean International Brewery Co. Ltd. will host the grand finale at the traditional Belcan Bridge location in Belize City, starting at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9. Fans, sponsors, and spectators are invited to attend, with Mine beer, sodas, water, and vendors available, along with entertainment.
This announcement comes after the initial decision to move the finish line to the Haulover Bridge near the Grand Resort, which sparked backlash from paddlers and supporters. The dual celebrations allows participants and fans to enjoy the excitement of the event’s conclusion at both locations, notwithstanding the cleaning of the Haulover area for free viewing alongside the official finish line beyond the Haulover Bridge at Grand Resort and Residences where both general and VIP seating are available.
