Kyle Zetina found guilty of triple homicide in 2019 execution-style murders

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Kyle Aswan Zetina has been found guilty of three counts of murder in the gruesome execution-style killings of Excelsior High School Vice Principal Alarice Andrewin, Vidal Antonio Yuman, and Maria Lucas, which occurred at Mile 10 ½ on the George Price Highway on June 3, 2019.

The verdict was delivered at 9:16 a.m. on Thursday in the courtroom of Justice Candace Nanton, who stated that she would provide her written decision at a later date. When informed of the guilty verdict, Zetina showed no sign of shock or surprise.

The trial, which began in June 2024, initially included co-accused Shawn Flores, but he was acquitted on June 28, 2024, due to lack of evidence. This left Zetina to face trial alone.

Throughout the trial, Zetina remained silent and did not present a defense. The prosecution was led by Crown Counsel Sheneiza Smith, while Zetina was represented by attorney Norman Rodriguez.

Justice Nanton has deferred sentencing until a later date and has ordered several reports before determining the appropriate punishment. These include a psychiatric report; a social report; three victim impact statements; a report on Zetina’s criminal history; and a report from the Kolbe Foundation.

On Thursday, Zetina appeared in person for the verdict, while his attorney joined virtually.
