By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): King Charles III, who is also Belize’s head of state, was left standing in heavy rain on Sunday night as he repeatedly asked aides for an umbrella during Antigua and Barbuda’s independence celebrations.

The King and Queen Camilla attended a parade at a cricket ground in Antigua marking the country’s independence anniversary.

Moments after the royal couple arrived, the skies opened. Queen Camilla, wearing a white gown, quickly signalled to her staff for an umbrella. A protection officer rushed over with a clear umbrella as she made her way to the sheltered seating area.

The King, however, appeared to be overlooked. He was seen standing in the downpour, gesturing with his arms and asking where his umbrella was.

His equerry eventually hurried over with a small black umbrella, and the King continued into the middle of the ground to inspect the Guard of Honour as the rain kept falling.

Antigua and Barbuda gained independence on November 1, 1981, just weeks after Belize became independent on September 21, 1981. Both countries are marking 45 years of nationhood this year, and both still recognize King Charles as their head of state.
