By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-two-year-old Kimane Rosita Ashanti Garbutt, also known as “Kimmy Boo,” avoided jail time on Tuesday after pleading guilty to common assault for attacking a friend and leaving her naked at a bus stop along the George Price Highway.

Garbutt, a Dangriga native who frequents the Hattieville area, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #4 of the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where she was fined $500 plus a $5 cost of court. She has until February 27, 2026, to pay the $505 fine, or face three months’ imprisonment in default.

The court heard that on Monday night, December 29, 2025, Garbutt and her friend were at a bus stop at Mile 17 on the George Price Highway when an argument broke out. The disagreement reportedly stemmed from an earlier incident involving a police officer who chased them away from his residence.

According to the virtual complainant, Garbutt punched her to the head during the altercation, and a struggle followed. Garbutt then allegedly removed all of the woman’s clothing and left her naked at the bus stop before walking away. A passing good Samaritan later found the distressed woman and took her to the police station, where she made a formal report.

In court, Garbutt admitted to assaulting her friend but attempted to minimize her actions, telling the Magistrate that she only dragged the woman by her hair and removed her clothing, insisting she did not strike her in the head. She told the court, “I never meant it. I apologized to her already.”

The Magistrate expressed concern over the use of physical violence to resolve disagreements, describing Garbutt’s conduct as troubling. However, the court took into account that this was her first conviction for an assault offense and spared her from a custodial sentence.

Garbutt’s latest conviction comes just months after she was found guilty of theft on October 1, 2025, involving a local musician. As part of Tuesday’s proceedings, she was first required to pay $100 toward an outstanding balance from that previous case, with the remaining amount also extended to February 27, 2026.

Common assault carries a maximum penalty of a $3,000 fine or up to 12 months’ imprisonment when convicted summarily, but the court opted for a lesser sentence in light of Garbutt’s lack of prior assault convictions.
