By Breaking Belize News Staff: The woman who made headlines in November 2024 after allegedly stealing from musician Robert Palacio has now been convicted in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.
Kimani Rosita Ashanti Garbutt, 21, known on Facebook as “Kimmy Boo,” changed her plea from not guilty to guilty before Magistrate Mannan Dennison on Wednesday. She was fined $500 plus $5 court costs and must pay by November 30, 2025, or face three months’ imprisonment.
In mitigation, Garbutt explained, “I was pregnant and he promised me some money. He went for the entire day and I had to catch a boat, so I took the stuff and left.”
The case stemmed from an incident in November 2024, when Palacio reported that after spending the night together, Garbutt absconded with his belongings while he went to withdraw money for her. Items stolen included a Vapor Max Nike tennis shoes valued at $200, a Beats Bluetooth speaker valued at $300, 12 pieces of clothing, Jordan sneakers, and seafood from his refrigerator, altogether valued at $730.
Garbutt, then pregnant, was first arraigned on November 11, 2024 and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison after being unable to meet a $1,500 bail, even spending her 21st birthday behind bars.
Now a young mother, Garbutt is preparing to celebrate her 22nd birthday on November 23—but only if she clears her $505 court fine in time.
