By Zoila Palma:  On November 30, 2025, the UDP held its national convention and Tracy Panton made history becoming the first woman to lead the UDP.

Former Special Envoy Kim Simplis reflected on the historic national convention and the leadership of Tracy Panton.

“The United Democratic Party’s first female Party Leader — who also serves as Leader of the Opposition — marks a moment of profound national significance. It represents not only a change in leadership, but a transformation in what is possible,” Simplis said.

“This milestone reaches far beyond party lines or political cycles. It stands as a testament to resilience, determination, and the quiet, persistent strength of countless Belizean women who have pushed boundaries, broken ceilings, and carried the hopes of generations. Their sacrifices and courage have paved the way for this moment to become reality,” Simplis expressed.

Simplis says that she hopes every girl across Belize sees herself in this historic achievement — that she knows her voice matters, her dreams are valid, and her potential is limitless.

In addition, the former Special Envoy said that representation at this level sends a powerful message: leadership is not defined by gender, but by the ability to uplift, inspire & lead with purpose.

She extended congratulations to Tracy Panton, Sheena Pitts & all those elected to lead.

“I am confident that, like myself, the people of Belize is hoping & looking forward to a vibrant opposition, one that brings positive transformation, renewed energy, and strengthened unity that this new chapter promises,” she further added.
